Believe it or not, Buick still offers a minivan in China. Dubbed the GL8, the Buick minivan serves a big purpose in China as an executive people mover. Buick has decided to preview the next iteration of the GL8 with a concept the brand is calling the GL8 Avenir Concept.
Debuting this week in Shanghai, the GL8 Avenir looks very production-ready. Buick has basically updated the front and rear fascias of the current GL8 for concept duty, brining the GL8 into the latest iteration of Buick design philosophy.
Coming inside, the GL8 Avenir sports an all new dash panel that features a 12-inch touchscreen display, a digital instrument panel, and a 14-inch head-up display system. Like the exterior of this concept, the interior follows a design theme that is not atypical from other recent Buick products.
The concept also features very posh captain chairs in the second row. The recliner-like thrones are complemented with a champagne bottle holder and champagne flutes, done in gold. While some of this is slightly over-the-top for the concept, it is worth mentioning the GL8 backseat is generally a more luxurious experience than what most American’s equate with a minivan.
Don’t expect the next iteration of the GL8 to make it stateside as this is a very China-specific product.
