Buick Encore GX Utilizing Three-Cylinder Power

Buick’s crossover lineup is growing for 2020 with the addition of the 2020 Buick Encore GX. While the crossover lineup is growing, its cylinder count is shrinking as the Encore GX will be powered exclusively by three-cylinder engines.

GM has published the order guide for the 2020 Encore GX, which shows two different engine options on the new crossover. The base engine will be a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder with 133 horsepower and 166 pound-feet of torque that’s mated to a CVT automatic transmission. Buyers wanting more power or all-wheel-drive will have to upgrade to an optional turbocharged 1.3-liter three-cylinder that offers 155 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque that’s bolted to a nine-speed automatic.

Encore GX will offer three different trim levels, named Preferred, Select and Essence. All three trim levels will be offered in front or all-wheel-drive, while the beefier engine option will also be optional on the front-wheel-drive variants of the Select and Essence trims.

Pairing with three-cylinder engines is a host of optional equipment Buick is offering on the Encore GX. The new crossover will offer everything from heads-up display to GM’s rear-view mirror camera system.

The 2020 Buick Encore GX will arrive in showrooms sometime in early 2020. Expect pricing details to be announced closer to its launch.
