Ford Motor Company has confirmed plans for Lincoln's first battery-electric vehicle. The new Lincoln SUV will be developed in partnership with electric vehicle startup Rivian, whom Ford invested in several months ago.*

News that the Ford partnership with Rivian will spawn a Lincoln product first is not new.*AutoVerdict*actually first published this shortly after Ford announced its $500 million equity investment into Rivian.*

Lincoln says the new electric SUV will be based on Rivian's skateboard platform, which is underpinning the Rivian R1T and R1S electric vehicles. Lincoln says the new vehicle will also leverage advanced technology, but is remaining vague on details.*

“Working with Rivian marks a pivotal point for Lincoln as we move toward a future that includes fully electric vehicles,” said Joy Falotico, president, The Lincoln Motor Company. “This vehicle will take Quiet Flight to a new place – zero emissions, effortless performance and connected and intuitive technology. It’s going to be stunning.”

It's unclear when this new Lincoln SUV will arrive to market. Ford has not disclosed a timeline for it.**
