Rumors of an additional Jaguar SUV have swirled for some time, but the luxury brand has now confirmed the J-Pace will be the brand's next SUV. Leveraging an all-new architecture, the J-pace will be the brand's midsize luxury SUV.*

Motor Authority*reports Jaguar has confirmed the J-Pace at a recent event where is actually previewed the new SUV with members of the media, marking the first official confirmation of its existence. Details of the J-Pace were not discussed, but Jaguar did confirm it will ride on Jaguar Land Rover's new modular architecture, known as MLA.*

The MLA will first debut on the revived Land Rover Defender, but it will also underpin the next-generation Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. Eventually most of Jaguar Land Rover's products will leverage this architecture, which will support mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid and pure electric powertrains.*

Speaking out powertrains, the J-Pace is expected to launch with both mild and plug-in hybrid variants. A battery-electric version cannot be ruled out for the future, particularly given the fact Jaguar expects 20 percent of new vehicles sales to be electric by 2025.*

Jaguar has not confirmed when the J-Pace will arrive to market. Previous rumors indicated the SUV will arrive in 2021. Once it arrives, it will compete with the Mercedes-Benz GLE and BMW X5, likely offering a third row seat option.*
