Report: Ford Planning Subaru Outback Fighter

    Source: AutoVerdict
    July 18, 2019
    by Nick Saporito

Ford Motor Company made headlines when it announced it was killing off nearly all of its passenger car models from the North American market. At the time, the company offered little in the way of details regarding what the product strategy would be going forward. Now, reports suggest one strategy may involve replacing the Fusion sedan with a Subaru Outback type wagon.*

European publication*AutoCar*is citing anonymous sources at Ford that the company is currently engineering a new wagon to replace the C-Max, S-Max and Mondeo models in Europe. The source states the new model will also be sold in North America as an indirect replacement to the Fusion (Mondeo in Europe). The rumored new car is slated to hit the market in 2021.*

The sources state the wagon will ride on Ford's C2 platform, which also underpins the all-new Focus in Europe. Eventually this platform will underpin additional Ford models, including the next Edge. Gas, diesel and a 48-volt mild hybrid are all expected to propel this new wagon.*

This isn't the first time there's been rumors of Ford working on a Subaru Outback competitor. Almost exactly a year ago similar reports surfaced, specifically suggesting the Fusion nameplate itself will rest on the back of this new wagon.*

Thus far Ford has not officially commented on the report.*

Outback sales have been increasing every year so it's a good market to get into

Did the Buick TourX really have this much of an impact on the market?

This is a good thing with cars as we know them disappearing.
