2020 Cadillac XT5 Gaining Turbo Four Option

Cadillac has yet to reveal it yet, but the 2020 Cadillac XT5 will be getting a refresh. As part of the refresh, Cadillac will be giving the XT5 a new engine option in the form of a turbocharged four-cylinder to supplement its existing V-6 engine.*

General Motors has published the official order guide for the 2020 XT5, which is confirming it will feature the company's turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four. The engine--known as the LSY--is the same 2.0-liter turbo found under the hood of the smaller XT4 crossover. According to the order guide, the 2.0-liter will be standard on the XT5 Luxury and Premium Luxury trim levels, but buyers opting for the Premium Luxury trim can still upgrade to the XT5's existing 3.6-liter V-6.*

Cadillac has not published the power ratings of the 2.0-liter turbo, but in the XT4 the engine is rated at 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Both engines will be paired to nine-speed automatic transmissions.*

Buyers going for the XT5 Sport--a new trim level for 2020--will get the 310 horsepower 3.6-liter V-6 standard.*

As part of the refresh, Cadillac is adapting its new "Y" trim level strategy to the XT5. This means the base version is called the XT5 Luxury, while the Premium Luxury and Sport models are similar in price points, but each offer their own "persona" to appeal to two different buyers. Expect to see visual differences between the Premium Luxury and Sport models.*

The order guide is also confirming a few new features for the 2020 XT5. Cadillac is adding things like an air ionizer and night vision as options. The XT5's infotainment system is also getting fully upgraded with Cadillac's latest, including the control knob interface found on the XT4.*

Rounding out the changes is a litany of packaging changes, most favorable for the customer, including standard LED headlights with IntelliBeam. Cadillac is also throwing in a ton of new color and trim options, including some interior colors that sound quite interesting.*

Ironically, Cadillac published the 2020 XT5 order guide before releasing official images of the refreshed SUV, so we'll have to wait awhile longer to actually see this refresh. Until then, we at least have the details.**

Can't say I'm surprised by this given the 2020 Acadia is getting the same engine.

Cadillac is clearly marching down-market, which is such an interesting pivot from where they've been heading.
