Like all Volkswagen Group brands, Audi has some lofty electrification plans. Audi's electric plans have been a little more mysterious than VW's, but reportedly Audi is working on a new electric hatchback based on the upcoming VW I.D. hatchback.*

According to*Auto Express*Audi will reveal a concept version of the upcoming hatchback within the next couple of months. The reveal will be at an auto show, possibly the Detroit Auto Show in January.*

Audi executives referred to the car as an "entry-level" offering for the brand, likely similar in size to the A3. Audi's exterior design chief*Andreas Mindt told the publication that designing a small electric hatchback in among the most difficult design tasks.

The designer also confirmed that most of Audi's pending 12 electric vehicles will have a conventional exterior design to avoid isolating current customers.*

Audi can leverage several different Volkswagen platforms to underpin a host of electric vehicles. The upcoming electric hatchback will likely leverage VW's MEB platform, but Audi can also electrify the MLB platform that underpins the Audi Q7 and possibly leverage the JT platform that will underpin the Porsche Taycan.*
