    Ford to Shuffle European Lineup

Ford Motor Company has already made it clear the company is making dramatic changes to its product portfolio in the U.S., but until now plans for Europe have been mum. Unsurprisingly, big changes are likely ahead for Ford Europe's showrooms.*

It was difficult for Ford to not discuss future plans for its European division during its recent earnings call. Ford CEO Jim Hackett characterized earnings from its European arm as "extremely dissatisfying," laying blame at the company's product lineup in the region. Specifically, CFO Bob Shanks stated "multi-activity vehicles" such as the C-Max are making up the bulk of the losses.*

The executive team shied away from confirming any product deaths, but the indicator was given that low-performers such as the C-Max, S-Max and Galaxy could be on the chopping block at the end of their current lifecycles. In their place? More SUV models; a point that was directly made by way of the company's slide deck accompanying its earnings call.*

Another European model with a questionable fate is the Mondeo sedan. Its North American counterpart, the Fusion, is already confirmed to die next year. Thus far, Ford has not confirmed the Mondeo's future. Mondeo sales have been sliding in recent years as global consumer trends lean more toward utility vehicles.*

The MPVs need to go and need to be replaced by the Maverick, 3 row version of the Kuga, and the Explorer.

That sounds like a sensible plan.
