    Infiniti Confirms Electrified Sedan Plans

Infiniti has confirmed plans for a new electrified platform to underpin several future models. One such future model is expected to be the redesigned Q70 sedan.*

The announcement was made at an event ahead of this week's Beijing auto show, where the luxury brand will announce plans for five new vehicles for the Chinese market, including a new sedan. Infiniti says the new sedan will be based on the Q Inspiration Concept, which was revealed in January.*

Infiniti has dropped some hints about its all-new architecture, including that at least some of the new models will be all-wheel drive and still have an on-board internal combustion engine. This layout suggests most new Infiniti models will no longer be rear-wheel drive.*

It is assumed Infiniti's new variable compression 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder would be the likely choice for the internal combustion engine. On its own it generates 268 horsepower, but with an electric motor and battery pack attached it would obviously make significantly more power.**

Despite plans for additional hybrid models, Infiniti is also working on its first pure electric car. This vehicle is due out in 2021. Infiniti estimates that over half of the vehicles it sells will be electrified by 2025.*

I think this is the route the next Continental needs to take as well.
