Supersized Silverado: Chevy Reenters Medium Duty Truck Market

Today at the*NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis Chevrolet officially revealed the all-new Silverado medium duty truck lineup. The new supersized Silverado marks General Motors first stab at the Class 4, 5 and 6 commercial truck market since axing the Chevrolet Kodiak during the company's bankruptcy in 2009.*

Given the new medium duty trucks carry the Silverado nameplate, it is only fitting that they indeed look like the Silverado. In fact, they're utilizing the same headlights the 2014 Silverado sported, but there's a ginormous grille slotted between them that is perhaps a bit overbearing. The same big snout is found on the 4500HD, 5500HD and 6500HD models.*

Each of the three models are powered by GM's well-known Duramax diesel V-8, which cranks out 350 horsepower and 700 pound-feet of torque. Like in the smaller Silverado HD, the Duramax is bolted to an Allison automatic transmission. This powertrain combination can be fitted into seven cab-to-axle sizes and five cab-to-back-of-frame lengths, offering commercial customers a buffet of options.*

In addition to the broad range of mechanical capabilities, the Silverado medium duty lineup is also filled with technology. GM claims it is the most-connected medium duty with features such as 4G LTE WiFi, wireless phone charging and functionality for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.*

Once on the market, the new Silverado medium duty lineup will compete with Ford's F450 and higher, as well as*Ram 4500/5500 Tradesman.

I feel like the whole front end was an afterthought. Almost looks photoshopped on.
