Polestar Breaks Ground at First Assembly Plant

New standalone auto brand Polestar has broken ground at the company's first assembly plant. The new plant is being built in*Chengdu, China and will ultimately be the primary assembly plant for all of Polestar's models.*

Thanks to its parent company Geely, Volvo and Polestar both now have deep connections in China. When Volvo announced its former performance label would become its own brand, it also confirmed Polestar would gain its own factory in China. This new factory is slated to be finished in mid-2018 - an aggressive timeline for a plant the company says will be the most "environmentally friendly auto plant in China."*

Polestar needs the factory done by this time next year to begin pre-production of the Polestar 1, the company's first product.*

Based on the former Volvo Concept Coupe, the Polestar 1 is a performance hybrid coupe that will carry a hefty subscription-based price tag when it goes on sale in 2019. Polestar plans to produce 500 copies of the 1 per year at this new factory.*The niche 1 coupe isn't the only car that will be produced at this new facility. Polestar has already confirmed 2 and 3 models, which will also be produced in*Chengdu in higher volumes than the 1.*

In addition to a traditional assembly line, the new facility will also have a customer delivery center for customers who aspire to take delivery of their Polestar straight from the factory. The complex will also include a test track for customers to try out their new Polestar product.*

I wonder how Volvo fans feel about it being built in China vs Sweeden
