Ford Motor Company, Shelby America and Hertz are announcing the return of the special edition Mustang Shelby GT-H for 2016. The GT-H will not simply just return to Hertz rental lots, but also commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Shelby GT350-H, which launched in collaboration with the three companies back in 1966. Only 140 copies of the Shelby GT-H will be produced, exclusively for select Hertz rental lots.
“The 1966 Ford Shelby GT350-H became a legend from the moment it was introduced,” said Joe Conway, Co-CEO of Carroll Shelby International and CEO of Shelby American. “Ten years ago, the 2006 Ford Shelby GT-H earned the same ‘rock star’ status when it was introduced at the New York Auto Show. We worked closely with Ford Performance to make the 2016 Shelby GT-H the most exciting Mustang ever to wear the iconic Hertz black and gold livery.”
The 2016 GT-H will also wear those iconic gold racing stripes, as well as a unique hood and badging. Each copy will be powered by Ford’s 5.0-liter V-8 and Ford’s Performance Handling Pack with unique suspension tuning. All 140 cars will also be numbered, adding to the collector caché. Ford claims the GT-H’s are some of the most sought after collector Mustangs in the world.
Those interested in renting a piece of automotive history will be able to do so later this year through Hertz’s Adrenaline Collection once the car is produced at Shelby’s Las Vegas facility.
