Next-Gen Ford Focus Expanding In Size

The next-generation Ford Focus is slated to grow in size, according to Automotive News. The expanded Focus will launch with a new design theme when it comes to market in 2019.

We already know the new Focus will be imported to the U.S. from China, likely in both sedan and five-door hatchback variations. Both variants are expected to have a new design theme with a new variant of Ford’s trapezoidal grille upfront and greater use of aluminum in the body.

The weight-savings from the added aluminum is expected to yield a downsizing in the engine department. Rumors suggest a variant of Ford’s three-cylinder engine will serve as the base engine, likely mated to a nine-speed dual-clutch transmission to replace today’s problematic PowerShift unit.

If Focus moves upsize, where does that leave the Fusion? Does it get bigger too? Or, from a global perspective, does a larger Focus mean the end of the Mondeo/Fusion?

Fusion grew considerably from where it was when the current Focus launched.

Focus will also carry a soft-road version. Watch out for that one.

I know the civic 's interior volume was increased with there next gen so I'm sure Ford would like to at least match the new civic if not beat them by a bit. Also, the Accord is suppose to grow a little with the next gen so the fusion should be right behind with an increase.
