It’s almost like deja vu. Lincoln has a rockstar Navigator right now and is about to roll out an Aviator mini-me. Only this time, the mini-me looks like a potential big-hit.
For now Lincoln is calling this the Aviator Concept, but let’s be honest: this looks very production-ready. In fact, the keen eye will notice that it’s parts-sharing several bits with the Lincoln Continental and Navigator.
It isn’t just sharing parts. The Aviator has the full-on Lincoln family look, borrowed from the Navigator and Continental. It’s a handsome three-row SUV built atop a new rear-wheel drive platform. Yes, rear-wheel drive like the old Aviator.
Lincoln is saying this concept is powered by a twin-turbocharged engine and plug-in hybrid setup, though they aren’t offering details on it at this point.
“We believe Aviator’s elegant design, state-of-the-art technology and refined plug-in hybrid option will draw even more clients to the Lincoln showroom,” said Lincoln president (and Ford marketing chief) Joy Falotico, “including families who are looking for three-row capability.”
A production version of the Lincoln Aviator will go on sale next year. It is unclear at this time if the concept’s hybrid powertrain will be available at launch. Nonetheless, it appears Lincoln has another fantastic SUV coming to join the Navigator.
