Ford has confirmed plans to launch a Ranger Raptor. Well, Ford Australia has confirmed Ford Asia Pacific is rolling out a badass version of the company’s global Ranger in 2018. While the news is isolated to Asia Pacific markets for now, it likely signals a Ranger Raptor is on for the U.S. once the midsize truck returns to the stateside market.
Ford Australia announced the new Ranger Raptor with an appropriately badass YouTube video (below) showing test mules of the new Raptor tearing up the terrain. Of course, as a test mule we can’t tell much about the truck just yet, but it is certainly borrowing design and technical cues from the larger F-150 Raptor.
The one detail we do gather from the video is that the Ranger Raptor will go on sale in Asia Pacific markets in mid-2108.
So far Ford is refusing to comment on the possibility of the Ranger Raptor coming to the U.S. market when the regular Ranger is slated to launch in 2019. Spy shots of Ranger testers in the U.S. have suggested we will in fact get a Raptor version, but its certainly not official. The release of the Ranger Raptor in global markets can probably be taken as a subtle confirmation for those of us stateside as well.
Expect further details on the new global Ranger Raptor in the coming months as the truck gets closer to launch. As for U.S. buyers: well, it appears Ford is trolling us with this global product until they decide to confirm a U.S. version.
