Ford Motor Company has already revealed the 2021 Ford F-150 PowerBoost hybrid in a high level of detail. However, the automaker has avoided any official discussions surrounding the fuel economy expectations of the first-ever hybrid F-150. Thankfully, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has eliminated the unknown.

Thanks to the keens eyes of folks on F-150 forum F150Gen14.com noticed that the EPA has actually published the F-150 PowerBoost’s official fuel economy ratings. To fully understand the F-150 PowerBoost’s fuel economy, one must only remember a single number: 24. According to the EPA, it will be rated at 24 mpg highway, 24 mpg city and, of course, a combined 24 mpg.

Speaking of 24, that is the same combined rating yielded to the 2020 F-150 PowerStroke diesel model, which is rated at 21 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. So while the diesel has a bit of an upper-hand on the highway, the hybrid will likely have higher returns in city driving, which is typical.

Where things start to really tilt in favor of the PowerBoost is when comparing power outputs. The PowerBoost is rated at 430 horsepower and 570 pound-feet of torque, while the diesel only generates 250 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque.

F-150 buyers will be able to add the PowerBoost hybrid powertrain to any trim level, from the base XL model all the way to the top-end Limited. The up-charge for the hybrid varies from $4,495 on the XL to only $1,900 on the Limited. Regardless of trim level, it is limited to only SuperCrew cab configurations.
