It feels like the wait for the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has been a long one, but it arguably has been worth the wait. Today Ford has confirmed the revived Shelby car is the fastest production Mustang ever built with a staggering 760 horsepower.
As expected, the Mustang Shelby GT500 is powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 engine. The setup churns out 625 pound-feet of torque as well, allowing Ford to claim the car is the “most power and torque dense supercharged V-8 in the world.”
The stats slot the Shelby GT500 110 horsepower above the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and actually position the car between the Dodge Hellcat and Hellcat Redeye models. Suffice to say, this Mustang will be a beastly drag car when it arrives later this year.
Ford’s press release on the matter was appropriately short with a blurb about the official power ratings and shift end with, “Enough said.”
