NHTSA has awarded the 2017 F-250 Super Duty Crew Cab a perfect five-star overall rating. The 2017 rating proves to be a big improvement over the last-generation Super Duty, which failed to score five stars across the board. In fact, the old one had a three star rating in some crash tests on the regular and extended cab variants.
The 2017 model has received five stars across the board, but there is a small caveat. The release from NHTSA explicits calls out the F-250 Super Duty Crew Cab 4×2 model. It isn’t entirely clear if the other vast number of variants of the truck also get a perfect score. It’s also possible NHTSA hasn’t yet tested all of them yet.
Given the 2017 model is the first all-new Super Duty since about 1998, it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise that it was able to achieve higher crash test ratings than its predecessor. It’s smaller sibling, the Ford F-150, also achieved five star ratings back in April 2015.
