The world has come to expect huge lines and people to camp in front of stores for new technology products, but cars? According to numerous social media posts, that societal phenomena is going on today at Tesla stores across the country because pre-orders for the company’s Model 3 electric car start at 7:30 PM PST.
Perhaps the most bizarre aspect of this isn’t just that lines are forming for a car that will reportedly cost at least $30,000, but that people are willing to pre-order sight unseen. The pre-orders start an hour before Tesla’s presentation about the Model 3, so those ordering…are basically just assuming they’re going to like it. At least when people stand in line for hours for the newest iPhone, they’ve seen it beforehand!
Those eager early adopters will have to fork over $1,000 to pre-order the car in-store or online today. Tesla also cautions that there is a limit of *only* two cars per client. At least the “his and her” option is still in the cards.
