Honda Accord, Lincoln Navigator and Volvo XC60 Take top Honors at NAIAS

This morning the 2018 Honda Accord was crowned 2018 North American Car of the Year. The 2018 Lincoln Navigator took the top truck honor, while the 2018 Volvo XC60 took top utility honor. The three awards were presented at the Detroit Auto Show.

In recent weeks a jury panel of 60 automotive journalists narrowed each category down to three contenders. On the car side, the all-new Accord beat out the Kia Stinger and Toyota Camry. The Navigator beat out the Chevrolet Colorado and its Ford Expedition brother. Volvo’s XC60 beat out the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Honda Odyssey.

2018 marks the third year the panel has opted to have a separate utility category. The utility category is specifically for car-based crossovers and minivans.

The panel started out with evaluating 35 vehicles prior to narrowing the list down to three per category.

Last year’s winners included the Chevrolet Bolt EV, Honda Ridgeline and Chrysler Pacifica.
