The cover has come off the upcoming Genesis G70 ahead of its scheduled debut. A Genesis promotional video of the new sedan was leaked online, so naturally screenshots ensued and showcase the brand’s compact luxury sedan in full glory.
Genesis is actually expected to formally reveal the car later today. Though the video shots show a car with Genesis’ large grille, slim headlights and a rather interesting rear design. The flowing sheetmetal on the car almost looks Mercedes-Benz at certain angles, though a premium vibe is likely the goal here for new-kid-on-the-block Genesis.
G70 will share its platform with that of the upcoming Kia Stinger GT sedan. This means the car is, of course, rear-wheel-drive and will share powertrains with its Kia cousin. Despite the similarities, Genesis has already confirmed the G70 is shorter and lighter than the Stinger, so the performance should be appropriately enhanced.
Sharing powertrains with the Stingers means the G70 will likely offer a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder in base form, nearly a pre-requisite for the compact luxury segment. The video also confirms the G70 will sport the same twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V-6 that the Stinger offers, which generates 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque under the Kia badge.
Genesis is slated to reveal the G70 later today, so expect further details later on. In the meantime, here’s a rather clear look at Genesis’ BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class fighter.
