Hyundai may have just given the Sonata sedan some updates for 2017, but it’s getting a facelift for 2018. Hyundai is previewing that new design with a series of sketches the company is trickling out via its own social media channels. The sketches confirm a fairly substantial facelift that brings the car in line with Hyundai latest.
At first glance it is clear Hyundai designers are bringing many cues from the new i30, such as the cascading grille, and LED light design. The front clip design also seems to look similar to that of the Veloster, mostly due to the large grille design.
Details of the 2018 Hyundai Sonata are still fairly scarce at this point. Rumors suggest the car will come with two different trim levels, a base car and a turbo model. The turbocharged variant will likely be powered by Hyundai’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, but the power output is expected to jump from today’s 245 horsepower figure.
We’re expecting the 2018 Sonata to be revealed in April at the New York Auto Show, but its global debut could take place before that in South Korea.
